I keep hearing this phrase ’Upcycle’ being banded around and wasn’t sure what it meant. According to Wikipedia - ‘It is the practice of taking something that is disposable or downcycled and transforming it into something of greater use and value.’ Then I realised I’ve been ‘Upcycling’ for years and didn’t even know it! The above is an example of ’ Here’s one I did earlier’ to coin a popular Blue Peter phrase. I purchased a rather lush, soft, faux fur coat from ‘Shelter’ the charity shop for the homeless. The sleeves were far too short for me and looked imbalanced because of the three-quarter length. So to cut a long story short, I cut the coat, therefore shortening it and used the excess material to make cuffs for the sleeves. I wore it a lot last winter as it was so warm and cosy, so you could say that was a successful ‘Upcycling’ job well done!
