I heart Shoe shopping

You have to be one step ahead of the game when you have larger feet and snap them up when you see something you like in your size. Maybe I am preaching to the converted here but the sheer gut-wrenching disappointment felt when they tell you “Sorry madam, we have sold out” is something you don’t wish to repeat. I forget my own advice time and time again - and it still hurts when you can’t get your hands on your much coveted pair of shoes. The Golden Rule - Shop in advance to avoid dissapointment. In January/February start looking at catalogues for summer shoes. In August/September start looking at Autumn/Winter boots and shoes. This particularly applies to the Next Directory - if you are a size 9 - they tend to sell out quite quickly. If there is a style that you absolutely love and its not going to look dated next year, buy more than one pair if you can possibly afford it.

Heels vs Flats - or maybe a small kitten heel?

Think outside the box, will those pretty summer flat sandals work as an evening shoe anytime of the year.  If you prefer a low heel shoe, it invites  a much more open-minded aproach - forthought and planning.  Always thinking of further down the road.  Personally, after experience of wearing heels and flats, I feel more comfortable in flats or a small heel but I still want them to be as pretty as any high heel.  Only you can decide which style works best for you and what you feel good in.  You can still wear something pretty flat and be-jewelled on your feet. It really depends on the clothes you are wearing and the silhouette.   A flat sandal works particularly well with jeans (wide leg or bootleg style with a ballet or flat shoe), or linen trousers or long evening dresses.  6ft tall Elle McPherson has worn her ‘long’ evening gown with jewelled flat sandals and looks stunning. (See I love glamourous flats)  Invest in simple leather toe thongs in gold, silver and bronze which will tone in with any outfit. After that look for anything unusual and pretty in bright colours.
